THE WELLINGTON BRANCH
A SUCCESSFUL YEAR.
Despite the inclement weather there was a fairly large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Wellington Branch of th Navy League last evening. Mr. J, P. Firth, C.M.G., presided.
Moving the adoption of the annual report and." balance-sheet, details of which have already <,been published, the president referred to the increase of the schools' membership during the past year, from 3000 to 4000. The children's farewell to the late Governor-General. Lord Jellicoe, and Lady Jellicoe, was one of the most-enthusiastic meetings ever held in tho Town Hall. It was a strikf ing expression; of admiration, affection, and gratitude. The speaker referred to the Palmer Prizes, and added that; it had also been intended to recognise Mr. Palmer in the report in connection with the "Nelson ; -.wreath. The balance-sheet showed the balance to be £200 over that' priast year. In conclusion, the speaker paid a tribute to the work of the Ladies' Auxiliary. '. .; | , Mr.,B ; . D.:D. M'Lean said it was very gratifying to learn that the schools' mew I bersjiip had shown such an increase. '. Tlie annual meeting of the Girls' Branch of the league also was held last, evening. The annual report was adopted Mrs. Dyer was re-elected president, and Miss Lulu Dyer lion, secretary. The committee, which was re-elected, consists of Misses N. Cooper, E. Jladfield, M. Brien, V. M'Curo, M." Martin, I. M'Lerinan, L. Bean, I. Ellison. N. Bevan, 0. Lezard, M. Mead. E. Norwood, c". Blundell, G. Ainslie, S. Darling, J. Allison, M. Coleridge, V. Bothamley, N Brunton, L. Dyer. Tlio girls havo decided to give further assistan.ee to the orphan clothing scheme. The president of the Ladies' Auxiliary was, present, and congratulated the girls' branch very heartily on the year's work.
