ORIENTAL BAY TRAMS AND BUSES
TO THB EDITOR,
_Sir,—Yoir have been good enough to give a considerable amount of your space lately, to Bay and Roseneath matters, .but I solicit.the privilege of a question or .- two to those responsible for the of Ahe Oriental Bay tram
In view of the proposed improvements to Caxlton ; Gore road, to be followed in the.near,:future!by a bus. serviced the higher levels; in view, also, of the fact that the Oriental parade is to be bitumenpaved, and-that the Roseneath' buses must • traverse this •■ ground if anything like aj service is going to be given to'the long-suffering residents of •Roseneath proper ,what possible^ justification is there for the'enormous expenditure which will be made in re-laying the tram-track! Is it not a fact that in all leading cities of the. world the motor bus is saining, a greater hold?.: Is it hot more popular wherever it. is found in competition with trams? Is it not quieter, more mobile/ and infinitely cheaper in capital cost? Is there one resident in Oriental Bay; who wants the noisy trams con.tinued, and to-be saddled with the rates on the new track, which will undoubtedly become a .white elephant in'no time? Lastly, is Wellington, 'always to labour under these costly mistakes?—l am, etc., ■■" • ■ ■: ■■. ■ CONFOUNDED. • 29th June. ..\
