THE MEMORIAL
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—As a parent of jone of our fallen' soldiers will you kindly allow me through your columns to enter my strong protest against tho proposal of Mr. M'Kenzie 'that the funds collected, £21,000, for tho Wellington memorial should be handed over to the Kaiitane Home fund appeal? I am strongly in favour that such a home should be erected, and would contribute my mit© accordingly. It has taken many long years for the memorial fund even to have attained to the sum in hand,, and yet Mr. M'Kenzie suggests that it should be immediately absorbed into the fund for the Karitane Home for which the public were asked' to subscribe, to, and only the last two months. I feel sure that, many paients of the fallen will protest against such a procedure. It is to my idea only right and just that the Wellington ■" war memorial fund should be kept distinctly apart from any other fund, and devoted either to a-carillon or such memorial a3 the.committee may deem appropriate. I am, etc., ' ■. ■.■:■.,..-. ■ . ■„,,-._ : FAIR PLAY.' 27th June. . . : . :
