Varenhorst, while studying in London, became involved in a smart circle and then drifted into the hotel business. He was suspected of participating in the white slave traffic, and finally was deported. Be returned in 1916, and was again deported. He returned in 1917 searching for the Delewds. whom he accused oE taking the proceeds from his hotel. Varenhorst attempted to asphyxiate the pair by inserting a gaspipe in their bedroom, and for this he was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment. Ho served seven years, and then renewed liis search for the Delewds, visiting America and England, and finally Holland, wheve lie located them at Scheveningcn.
