LONDON, 25th June, j " The Court is satisfied that you, as | an experienced solicitor of the High' Court, have for years associated with a ' gang of daring and dangerous thieves; and mail-bag robbers," ■ said Mr. Jus- \ tice Salter at the Old Bailey, in sen-j tencing to three years' imprisonment j Charles Sharman, aged 75, a, well-known London solicitor. Sharnian had pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal and receive the contents of mail bags, and forgery. . The Judge continued: "The robbers! acquired a mass of valuable securities, I which were of little use to them without your assistance in disposing of the booty, I and you sold them all over Europe and i America, in false names, not hesitating at when necessary. " I am told you have been continuously heavily blackmailed; but thieves often blackmail one another." It was urged in -mitigation that the accused was largely responsible for the I recovery of £90,000 worth oi bonds at Antwerp.
