BANK OFFICERS' GUILD

A PLEASANT REUNION.

The sixth annual smoke concert and reunion of members of tlie New Zealand Bank Officers' Guild was held at Gamble and Creed's Rooms, Lambton quay, last evening. There was a large attendance. Mr. L. C. Hawk, president of the guild, occupied the chair, and amongst those Piesent wer e leading officers of all the banks. ■ ' In proposing the toast "The Banks," the chairman outlined the steady progress made by the guild,-alluded to the success of candidates for the diploma m banking, and acknowledged the valuable encouragement and practical monetary and other assistance given by the directors and head officers of the banks. llie toast'was responded to by Messrs. r. H. Cox (Bank of Australasia and chairman of the banks), T. E. Corkill Bank of New Zealand), E. P.. Yaldwin (Commercial Bank),G. W. M'lntosh (National Bank), D. P; Youren(Uni6n Bank of Australia), and G. B. Sheridan (Bank of New South Wales). All the speakers congratulated the guild on its success, and alluded to the improved position of officers during recent years. Compli^ mentary reference was made to the ability displayed by the candidates for the banking diploma, and the younger officers were urged to take advantage of the opportunities offered for their qualifying by, examination and special study for the more responsible positions in the banks. The _ directors and head officers all re--ngnised the value of the special study required for passing the examinations, and substantial recognition of the passes for the diploma had been made by thfe banks. Professor B. E. Murphy, proposed' the toast The Guild," which was responded to by Messrs. J. H. Baxter and H. P. Mourant (general secretary).- "The Visitors" was proposed by - Mr. John Shaw and responded to .by Mr. H. F yon Haast. An excellent musical programme was provided. Songs were given by Messrs. S. Nelson, N. Aitken, B. Bindon, Tinney, and Blackie; recitation, Mr. D. Inch; and 'cello solo, Mr. E. J. Hume
