PEACE-TIME DIVISION. A comprehensive* report was submitted by Dr.. Morgan" at a meeting of the Peace-time Division of the Wellington Red Cross Society* upon the operations for the month. He stated that in connection .with the league's poster competition, one poster had been forwarded to Paris by a Wellington artist. Advisory assistance had been given to the Railway Department in the fitting out of first-aid appliances for trains. Free public. medical lectures had been given by Dr. W. S. Robertson on "Infantile Paralysis and its Treatment," and Dr. F. W. Shirer, on "Vaccination and Inoculation." of the society had been successfully formed at Lower Hutt and Island Bay, and classes in homo nursing, started in these suburbs. Members oi the First Aid Detachment were in attendance at Association Football grounds each Saturday. In addition to ordinary minor injuries, a number of fractures had been attended to in a manner which had earned the praise of the hospital authorities. Members of the detachment are filled with enthusiasm for their work which is deserving of much praise, when' it is remembered that such services are given very; often under wet, miserablo conditions, and in exposed places, even though everything possible is done by the. Referees' Association for comfort. Members of the detachment in attendance at football matches meet each Friday evening for practice. . Classes in home nurs-' ins?," hygiene and sanitation,. and ■ first aid have been continued, a number of students qualifying for their proficiency medallion in the advanced course of first aid. Examinations had been conducted by Dr. M'Kibbin,- Director of Public Hygiene, Department of Health. A special ■ Saturday -midday first aid course, for training college students has been begun for .students wishing to qualify for Teachers' Certificate D. Distress Relief: During the past month many tolls, have been made, on the charity '1" the society. These had beeu successfully met largely owing to the splendid response of the public to the society's appeal for clothing.' 'Junior Red Cross : Now circles had been formed at Chillon House College, Wellington East Girls': College, Hapuka, School, Okato School,,lsland Bay School. W-ha-tatutu School, and Berhampore School, llie portfolio prepared by the Junior Red Cross of the Wellington Girls'' College will be forwarded to England nextweek. Tho editor of "the "New Nation 1 had offered to publish Junior Red Gross articles occasionally. Gramophone recitals, organised *by Mr. M. Ryan, have been held" weekly on Mondays, at 8 .p.m.- - These are well attended, and proceeds accruing form a source of revenue for Junior Red Cross funds. It was also reported that classes. in home nursing are held at Queen Margaret College/ Eastbourne, Wellington Girls' College,,. Bryant and Mays factory, Island Bay, Lower Hutt. and headquarters. Also first hid class at Queen Margaret College.- Arts and Crafts Club continues" to meet on Tuesday evenings, and many articles have been made. Visits have been made, and advice given, to sick people in needy circumstances; 240 garments and 26 pairs of boots have been distributed during the month. Since opening the Red Cross Shop good business has been done, and con-' uiues to increase. It was hoped that the shop would be given a still laiyer" patronage.
