AN APPEAL TO ALL
There are few homes in Welling- I ton which have not at some time or other sought the advice and assistance of the Plunket Society. Every day nurses are in attendance at the city and suburban rooms to examine tho babies and help the" mothers, • and if the mother is unable to take her baby to the nurse the nurse will visit the ho.me. Parents will readily agree that the work thus done has proved of incalculable value. Yet this is not all that the P'lunkefc system means. It means also education .for the parents in how to rear healthy children, with power .to resist disease: it means extensive health propaganda; and it means measures to build up the strength of the mothers. All this work has been done without any request for payment; without even any mention of payment. The poorest family has had the same attention as the child of rich parents. The welfare of mothers and children has been the only aim. No work could be more truly organised upon a basis of service. Sow an appeal is being made to the gratitude of all who have benefited to give something iv return, not as payment for the services of the past, but so'that the Society may | be equipped to do even more than | it has yet clone. The help of all ■ is required if the aim of establishing- a Kai-itane Home in WellingI ton. is to bo achieved. In order that j all people may learn what is pro- | posed the Mayor has convened a meeting of citizens to be held ■ in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall to-night. A public campaign for funds will then be opened. AH who appreciate the value of the Plunket organisation are asked now to show that appreciation by giving tlie campaign a good start, so that the money may be obtained quickly and the work of the organisation extended.
