TROUBLE ABOUT CHAIRMEN'S APPOINTMENT.

AUCKLAND, This Day. Strong exception is taken by several members of the City Council to the action of the Mayor, Mr. Baildon in appointing chairmen of the various 'committees.
Councillor Bloodworth said the appointment of Councillor Robertson as chairman of the Tramways, Waterworks and Etectncity Committee, though Coun' cillor Robertson had no previous experience on this committee, had been made over his head. He took this as a-« msult, as he had served two terms on the committee, and was entitled to have been consulted. He refused'to serve on the committee, and would seriously consider whether he would remain a member of the council.
Councillor Robertson said he was quite prepared to serve as an ordinary member of the committee tTw- ¥S'° T Said had f°N°™ed the established custom in naming the chairmen He thought Councillor Robertson was the beat man, but welcomed the discussion. .
After a- lengthy discussion, a motion was earned that the committees should appoint the chairmen. The Mayor's allowance was fixed at ±»OUU.
