MOTHER AND SON BURNT TO
DEATH

RAETIHI, This Day. Jane Ann Pirie, aged 46 years, and her son lan Walter, aged 9 years,, were burnt to death on Sunday morning at Pipiriki road, ten miles from Eaetihi.
The.husband was sleeping in the next room and barely escaped, Flames were all round when he awoke, and he was unable to reach his family.
_ The. Pines are a well-known farming family in the district. The husband is a Waimanno county councillor and a member of other public bodies. Three other children also escaped. The bodies of the mother and the boy were, charred beyond recognition \when recovered.'
_.The affair is most-painful, because Mrs. Pine's mother was buried on Thursday. _ The bodies have been brought to Raetihi for the inquest.
