(Received sth May, 12.30 p.m.)
SYDNEY 2 This Day.
The "Sydney Morning Herald" says that negotiations between the banks are progressing satisfactorily towards settling the exchange rates on London. There is every likelihood o£ a compromise being reached between two proposals, one for a steep fall, and the other for making the fall easy by steps.' The margin between buying and selling rates is also being negotiated, and a compromise is likely between the advocates o£ an initial margin of ss, widening with the lengthening of the usance, and the advocates of the present 20s margin.
