NEWTOWN.
There -were about twenty householders at the New-town School, Mr. J. W. Salmon occupying the chair. The report and balance-sheet, details of which have teen published, weTe read and adopted. Tho headmaster (Mr. J. F. Thurston) expressed thanks to the committee for the kindly refei-ences to the work of the teachers. With regard to the closing of the schools owing to tho epidemic, he stated:—"During that time -work by correspondence was carried on. Some of the children did good work, some did work below standard, while others did not send in any work at all. However, the children have come back to school in very good health and most of them have settled down to work with tho idea of making up for lost time, and I feel sure that by the end of the year most of the year's work will have been covered." Mr. Thurston thanked the committee for its help and co-operation. Only the required number of nominations for the committee was received, those declared elected being as follow: Mesdames E. J. Webb and M \ Wright, the Rev. A. N. Scotter,' and Messrs. H. J. Barley, J. H. Gilchrist, 1. Gnmshaw, A. Priddle, C. Webster, and J. W. Salmon.
A motion of thanks -was passed to the retiring committee and to the headmaster and his staff.
At a meeting of the incoming committee, Mr. J. W. Salmon was re-elected chairman.
