PALMERSTON'N., Ist May. A complete return of the Poppy Daysales shows that the grand total for tho district was £180.

_ About 60 shooting licenses -have been issued at the local post office, which is about the usual number applied for at the opening of tho season. Game is abundant in the Manawatu this year, and a successful season, is anticipated. Word has been received locally that the Rev. H. G. Blackbourne, formerly vicar of All Saints' Church, Palmerston iNorth, -who spent the winter in Italy has returned to England, where he hopes to take over a-small country parish. Mr. M. E. Perreau, who was elected Mayor of Foxton this week, met with an injury at Moutoa by which three of his ribs were broken. This will necessitate him being confined to his bed for a few days.

Mr. A. Dawson, formerly chief postmaster at Blenheim, has taken up his duties as postmaster at Palmerston North.

The present instrument could be sold for about £400 and he suggested that a new one be pur°r?ln c afc ' a c°'st -between £2000 and &3000. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Matthews and' family and Mr. . Hannay for their donation and a committee was appointed to act with the vestry in raising the balance of the sum required.
