TEST CRICKET
HOBBS ON ORTHODOXY.
(DSriED MIESS ' ASSOCIATION—COPSR'IGBT.)
(SJIDNF.S SUN CABLE.) (Received 2nd May, 11 a.ni.)
LONDON, Ist May.X B. Hobhs, in liis second article in the "Daily News," claims that English batsmen maintain their classic style more .successfully than do Australians. He says': "We were repeatedly astoiir isliod to see Australian batsmen connecting when playing with a cross bat at a legrspin ball, whereas Englishmen would have got right on to the pitch of the ball with a straight bat in orthodox fashion. Tho Australians seemed able to judge how the ball was coming. Probably after a couple of years' experience in Australia we shall be able to hit for four many of the balls which went unpunished. 1 am convinced that the unorthodox Australians will make a sorry mess of things on English wickets unless they iillcv their tactics. They KhnuW lie aUfi lo nltcv their style, hub only after .diligent practice and' work." Tim t)rm:le ci.MsidMs (lutt ,1, M, Taylti): imtl Wwwi Uurdeljsy. ory.
