RE-BROADCASTING IN DUNEDIN
Towards the close of the usual transmission by the Otago Radio Association (Station 4AB) on 17th April last, li,. teners-in on crystal sets in Dunedin were agreeably surprised to hear tho announcement "2BL here," the call of one of Sydney's broadcasting stations, luen followed a splendid orchestral selection, somewhat spoilt, however, by static and the usual oscillating valves. «a!t> ann°"nceme"t which followed, 4AB caUing, re-broadcasting 2BL, Sydney, received by 4AK," made clear to listeners-m what had transpired Mr W L. Shiel, 4AK, had received 2BL, bvdney, and, co-operating with 4AB's operators, had by means of the telephone, .sent the music from 2BL into Station 4AB, where it was again put through the transmitter, thus rendennff it.possible for users of the humble crys- . i°o^ y with trul'h thafc they had heard 2BL. The whole thing wai done on the spur of the moment, and, given a little time lor proper preparation, there is no reason why New Zealand listeners should not regularly hear 4AB re-broadcasting other overseas stations. This feat marks a new development in oca] transmittmsr, says "Magnavoi," in the 'Otago Daily Times," and. if ona may judge from numerous telephone reports, it is a development which is most pleasing to amateurs.
