CANTERBURY MARKETS

(Et TELSORAFH.—FBEES ASSOCUTIOS.)

CHRISTCHURCH, 21st _ April. ■ Odd lots of wheat are straggling in to millers, but in the aggregate the quantity is very small. A number of bigger growers are storing, it is " undßrstoody* whilsb several large'"millers-are holding, up to six weeks or two months', supply; and others are on small reserves. However, millers report unusually dull flour trade. Bakers are apparently buying from hand to mouth in the belief that flour cannot go lip any higher, whilsfithere is a possibility of it coming "down.'l This is having the effect of reducing millers' gristing activities, -which in turn is reflected by their restricted purchases ol" wheat. There are cases of millers, whp i have been unable to secure supplies' afc schedule rates, paying another 3d per bushel, and sales of this class have taken place with the North Island. ' "" Fowl wheat is meeting with inquiry, and business has passed at 6s 5d f.0.b., sacks extra. Few oats have been offering at recenb quotations, the burst of wintry weather having a natural tendency to firm, values.) A few sales of B gartons have, taken place at 4s f.0.b., s.i., but quotations ara a penny better than this, whilst for MaySeptember delivery A's aro quoted at up to 4s Sd per bushel, with little response. Tho potato market is unaltered. Tha Waitomo's delayed departure allowed i few moro shipments to get down to port and Hint vessel's quantity will probably average between 2500 and 3000 sackii. Aa it is a week since tho departure oi tha last_ vessel, and it will be another week until the next boat sails, the Northern.'market is likely to be under-supplied. Digging has.commenced on.a few of tha ( drier parts, and there are reports o£ blight in tho tubers in a few localities." There is no change to record in seeds I and other produce.
