A LIVELY MEETING

HOUSEHOLDERS AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

(BI TBIBQRAFH.—SPECIAL 10 THE POST.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. Proceedings at tho annual meeting of householders at the Central School wore more than usually lively, there being a record attendance. Mr. P. T. Robinson, secretary of the retiring committee, referred to a recent deputation from the Council of Christian Congregations, which waited on the committee regarding the hours at the school baths on I Sundays. Mr. Robinson criticised the Council of Christian . Congregations at great length, and was subject to a considerable amount of interruption. Continuing, he stated that it had been reported in the Press that a speaker at a meeting of the Council of Christian Congregations had stated that it was unfortunate that he occupied a position on the school committee, and they should remedy; the matter. This was evidently, he said, being attempted, because someone had gone round the school area saying that, the householders must "get rid of Robinson, as he was a Roman Catholic and a Bolshevik." Cries of protest were made against the speaker's words. The speaker at this stage used some very strong words, and interruptions were again frequent. Continuinc;, Mr. Robinson denied that he was a Roman Catholic. He thanked heaven they had not said he was a member of the P. P. A. He strongly protested against the introduction of religious feeling into school activities. He was very bitter when he saw persons spoiling (,] le educational system. The' Rev. Duncumb, a member of the deputation that had waited on the retiring committee in connection with the alteration of Sunday swimming hours, said lie took exception to what Mr. Robinson had said. As secretary of the retirine committee he had done pood work for the school, but, owing to his views, lie should not be on the committee. The final result of Dip meeting was that the defeated candidates for thp committee, inrluded Mr. RoMufoii and also Mr. A. ,T. Mahun,; chairman pi tho old committee. ,---•■ ■■'••■■ ■■■■.!
