ASKED TO STAND

A deputation of Thames business men waited on Mr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P who has been Mayor for the last two years asking him to consent to nomination for a further term, states a Press Association message. The speakers urged that his knowledge of the works now in progress in the borough would be valuable for the next two years. Mr. Rhodes expressed his appreciation, and consented to nomination. The opportunity was then taken to ask the Deputy-Mayor Councillor Miller, who is not standing lor the borough this term, to consent to nomination for the Harbour Board on which he has served several terms, but from which he had notified his wish to retire. It was pointed out that the harbour scheme now coming into being made it necessary that Mr. Miller should continue, and he consented
