(BY TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL TO THE POST.) MASTERTON, This Day. The balance-sheet of the Featherston Borough Council shows a credit balance of £30. It has been decided to re-establish the Masterton Collie Club and to hold a two-day sheep dog trial this year. Messrs. W. Aitken, O. Nation, P. C. Taylor, A. Reed, G. Thompson, H. M'Lennan [McLennan], M. Wilton, K. Wilton, and G. W. Reed have been appointed a committee, with power to add, to canvass for members and assistance. Mr. J. F. Hebenton is interim secretary. It was decided to approach the old club in regard to funds and officers. The official opening of the egg-laying competition now being held at the Solway Poultry Farm will be held on Saturday afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock, when Mr. Brown, Chief Government Poultry Instructor, will give an address. A petition signed by 85 ratepayers has been received by the Featherston Borough Council asking for a poll to rescind the system of rating on the unimproved value. The poll will be taken on municipal election day. A poll will also be taken on the half holiday question. Mr. W. A. Marshall, business agent of the Railway Department, is in Masterton on railway business To-morrow afternoon he will meet the council of the Chamber of Commerce, when suggested alterations in the time-tables [timetables] and other matters will be discussed.
