GOOD PROGRESS
WELLINGTON TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.
A record of progress is contained in the annual report of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, and the opinion is expressed that opposition and apathy, which have been pronounced in tl}e past, will be gradually worn away. States the report: "The council has maintained the good rate of progress which has been so- pronounced since 1918, when the property now occupied was taken over by us; and if we keep in view the fact that we are in a sense acting as' trustees for those to follow us in the movement, there is not much doubt but that our fate of progress in the future will be accelerated, and that during the next seven years we shall make greater strides forward than has been the case since 1918, although that has exceeded our expectations. "That the council is becoming more popular among the unionists of Wellington is well exemplified by the fact that during the year three more unions applied for affiliation to the council, and were admitted to membership; and thus the council is strengthened by the addition to its ranks of the Wellington Timber Workers', Dairy Workers', and Marine Cooks and Stewards' Unions. This indicates a considerable increase in membership, and x-eflects great credit on the council. There is not much doubt that if the present policy is continued we shall gradually wear away the opposition and apathy which have been rather pronounced in the past, and receive that united support of which the council is so deserving."
