LATE SPORTING
_ Mr. P. Selig, president of the New Zealand Trotting Association, last night received the following cable message from Mr.. J. Brennan, president of the West Australian Trotting Club, Perth 1 :— "The first event of the championship was a great success. Yin Direct (Victoria) beat Great Hope by a foot. Taraire was third, two yards off. Unfortunately Great Hope had a fall on the training track prior to the race, which no doubt affected his chance. Great interest was manifested. Sorry you not 'with us."
