AIONTHLY MEETING OF BOROUGH

COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held last evening under the chairmanship of-the Mayor (Mr. H. W. Shortt). The following were also present: Councillors H. Downs, H. M. Jones, E. A. Dawson, A. Walker, and H. J. Levy. A resolution was carried levying a special rate of 1 S-12d in the £ on the unimproved value. The rate" is levied to pay interest and sinking fund on the recent loan of £11,000, £10,0 CO of which is in connection with the extraamount borrowed on behalf of the ferry service and £1000 for electric street lighting.

Tenders for delivery of goods carried by the boats for twelve months were received, the successful, tenderers being Hutchinson and. Holloway. Four tenders were received for sanitation and refuse, the tenders being referred to the Works Committee and gen - eral manager with power to act. Councillor Dawson resigned the offlco of sinking fund commissioner, am? Councillor Jones was appointed in i-i* stead.

Tim Huts Valley Power Bocrd tendered a _ price for lighting the municipal tennis courts so that play could take place after dark. Owing to the high cost of erecting poles and lamps, aiid the equally high price for "juice, 1 it was decided not to proceed with the matter. To make the courts pay their way the council would require to make a charge of 6s per hour fo-: night play.
