It declares that while aviation is ft vitally important auxiliary for naval defence and offence, the battleship remains the backbone of the navy and of, national defence.
The board does not regard aeroplane bombing as making battleships obsolete, and for the first time reveals the conclusions regarding the Washington bombing experiments, namely, that tha hull of the latest typ* of battleship is capable of withstanding an a«ri»l attack to a remarkable degree, and would, be substantially secure sgiinat art air Offensive.
