{It • CKMOMfB.—rMU. ASSOCIATION.)

CHIUSTCHUECH, 11th. Feb.' At the Plumbers' Conference to-day the Remits Committee reported that it did not approve of.the following Christchurch remit:—" That the -conference consider the advisability of advocating the repeal of the Plumbers Registration Act." ; .

Mr. T.~ G. Killick (Christchurch) said the Christchurch Union thought it would be a good idea; to have the opinion of the federation regarding the Act, as many members were doubtful as to the value of the Act. Mr. W. Judd said .the-plumbers had fought for years' tfo 'geftliis'Ac't 'passed. What impressed him \was that many members had " the wind up " because there, had been so many failures, and that would occur at times. He regarded the Act as a splendid one Mr. S. G. Angell (Dunedin) said he agreed that the Act.was a good one. The ,remit was lost.

The Remits Committee reported that it agreed with the principle of the following Dunedin remit, which, it re. commended should be referred !to the local unions:—" That each; local union be recommended to take any steps deemed necessary toward the 'estat). hslunent of classes for the instruction of adult workers." The remit was carried. . . .

It was resolved that the conference make representation-to the Plumbers' Board with a. view to instituting an oral examination for those candidates who have repeatedly failed in the written theoretical examination. The following* resolutions were earned:—" That the conference protests against the failure of the Govjrnment to pass legislation affording relief to the employers .from the undue hardship imposed by reason of the necessity of paying full wages to youtjis attending military camps." *'• That the Government be strongly urged to' pass amending legislation providing for the observance of inzac Day on a Sunday.- .-. .
