TE AWAMUTU, This Day

The escapes from Waikeria, Harold Keith Jones, was recaptured on a farm at Paraweraj an adjoining settlement, after having been ,27 hours at liberty. A settler named Pollard saw a man crossing a paddock, but on his approach the man ran away. Being suspicious regarding the man's behaviour, Pollard rang up the police, and his suspicions were confirmed.

On the arrival of the police and warders, Jones ran for shelter into the bush, which was surrounded, -whereupon Jones' gave himself up. Pollard, whilo assisting tho police, was jolted from a motor-truck, and, falling on; his shoulder, injureH his collarbone. •.

When captured Jones had a loaded rifle. He told tho police that had he been accosted on tho day of his escape he would not have hesitated to use the weapon, but had thought better of carrying resistance to such extremes.

It is understood that in addition to the charges for which liib present sentence is being served, other charges of forgery are pending against tho prigoner.
