STATISTICAL POSITION SOUND
New Zealand sales to follow for the current month are: Auckland, 10th February, 15,000 bales; Wanganui 14th February, 20,000 bales; Napier.and Gisborne, 18th February, 20,000 bales i Wellington, 23rd February, 25,000 bales • Christchurch'i 27th February 10 000 m, heSO are limits fixed by the Wool Committee, and make- for the whole month an ■• aggregate of 110,000 bales... For March sales there is no limit but it is estimated that 83,000 balea will be available.
Irom, advices received in Wellington it is learned that wool bought in Wellington in November last, made a loss in London ,of fully 2d per lb to which lreight and other charges would have to be added. •
Messrs. Dalgety and Co., London, reporting on 17th December, remark :— "The season in the Dominion opened last month, with prices well above London parity, due largely to strong. American competition, but during the last few days cables from New Zealand report a decided check to this advance aud prices have fallen Id to 3d on the season's opening rates. The reaction is evidently due to a ,falling-off in the demand from America buyers doubtless having filled their immediate requirements. With good prospects of an expansion of trade in Germany and America next year, we do not think it likely that there will be a decline in the demand for wool, but, of course, it must be remembered that prices are now very high, and consequently very larg< sums of money are required to finance purchases. Here, then, is likely to be the principal difficulty, and buyers may still find the banks reluctant to give, them all the credit they want, although matters in this respect are very much better now than they were at the beginning of the season. Under the circumstances it is only to be expected that there will be the usual fluctuations in prices but the statistical position is undoubtedly sound.': ."♦ ■ ' ■ J
