SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN PRO. BDCTION.

The figures of the dairy division of the Department of Agriculture sl?ow that tho salted butter graded "for January were 9788 tons, and the unsalted 625 tons, a total of 10,413 tonß, compared with 7630 tonß salted and 672 tons unsalted, v- total of 8202 tons'for January, ot last year, an increase of 26.9 per cent. For the six months ended January the respective quantities were 45,289 tons and 2706 tons, a total of 47,995 tohs compared with 36,466 tons and 2620 tons ai total of 39,086 tons for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an inCreaks of 22.8 per cent. The cheese graded for January comprised ;—'White, 6889 tons: coloured, 3368 tons, a total of 10,257 tons, compared with 6803 tons whiiej and 4187 tons tons coloured, a total of 10,990 tons for January, 1924 a decrease of 6.6 per cent. The quantities for the six months ending January, 1625, were:—Wliite 27,134 tons; coloured, 14,723 lons a total of 41.867 tons, compared with' kj,----566 tons white, and 16,941 tons coloured a, total of 44,507 tons,' for th.j correspond' ing period of,the preceding season, a do« crease of 5.9 pet cent. Converting these figures into butterfat equivalent there is an increase of 12.9 per cent, in butter-fat production for the six months, as compared with tho cor* responding period of 1923-24. Stocks held in the various grading ports fit 31st January, were :—Butter. .776 tons j cheese, 9486 tons.
