BUYING MILK
THE COUNCIL AND THE FARMEB.
Can the chairman make any 'explanation of the figures pu&lished in the i ress to the effect that the council pays 8d per gallon for its milk and sells it at 2s 2d per gallon," asked Councillor Chapman at last evening's meeting of tlin City Council. "The only explanation," answered Councillor ,W, H. Bennett; "is that we are not buying by the gallon at all. We ; nre selling by the gallon, but we are I buying on a buttter-{at basis. . . . If wo | compare the amount' we are paving the formers for butter-fat with what ithey would get in the ordinary dairy factories it will be shown that they) are getting far and away more than/ any other ftmunrs in the district." - / .
