It was realised \many months ago, certainly, -when tenders \vere f sailed' for uio supply of;pipes for;the OrongorongoJ"«' Pipe luiej that it wa3 unlikely that Wellington would receive any really^great^benefit .from', the, Orongorongo" water : supply - during the' present summer; at the present'time the fact js so-well established, thaf there is not the slightest'room for argument about it. ' The summer moves on towards autumn and delivery of the' 21 Mich pipes has -not been commenced; Koughly speaking, the contractors ''■are v about six months behind time,iiarid" naturally,, the completion of the -pipe 'is much further ahead than was -ever' anticipated when '.plans' for, the''new' mam were drawn up and adopted by the council. . ■■■.;•■'■;
The means that a considerable sum of money iv water rates which should be collectable: will be lost (o the council, and that there is, consequently no offset against the interest and other charges upon the £200,000 worth, (or sllSht'y less) of reticulation in Karori and Onslow. To that monetary loss is to bo added the inconvenience-to residents of the areas reticulated but sut>phed Wl th not one drop of high-pressure
