SOLUTION "OF PICKING-UP DIFFICULTY.-

_ SYDNEY, 16th January. A most important development in connection with the waterfront trouble today followed upon an interview with the Lord Maybisand the assistant secretary of the New South Wales branch of the Seamen's . Union. After the position was explained _to him the Lord Mayor addressed a letter to the shipping associations involved and to the secretary, of the Seamen's Union, suggesting n conference at the Town Hall on Monday morning. At this < conference he offers to act as intermediary, also Buggesting a solution of the picking-np-place difficulty by offering the basement of the Town Hall for this purpose.
