--■ SPEEDING MOTORIST PINED £15 10s. While on-duty on the Butt roaii about 4 p.m. on sth January, Constable Morrison observed a- motor-cycle travelling at a fast speed. The patrolman immed°" lately gave chase, but the rider of the cycle increased his speed when he observed that he was being followed. The chase started from Rocky Point and through Petone, and it was not till the boundary between Petoue and Lower Hutt was reached that ■ the cycle was overtaken. The rider of the motor-cycle, a young man named Harold Douglas fravers Ellis, was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with driving It a speed dangerous to the public, with exceeding 25 miles an hour on the Hutt road, and with having the rear number on his' bicycle not easily distinguishable. Defendant pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant Lander, who prosecuted pointed out that the defendant tried to beat the constable, and in doing go registered over 50 miles an hour. Defendant admitted travelling at 50 miles an hour, and said that he lost his Dead. On the first charge Mr. E Pace S M imposed a fine of £10. For exceeding the^ speed limit on the Hutt road de° fendant was fined" £5, and on the remaining charge he was fined 10s Another motorist, Charles Mo'ntrose Jenkins, who had travelled at 40 miles an hour on the Hutt road in a motorcar, was fined £3 On a separate charge of dangerous driving on the Hutt road, ho was fined £5.
