His Excellency, the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, has accepted an invitation by the New Zealand Club to be its' chief guest and speaker at -the club's luncheon in the Concert Chamber on Wednesday, 21st inst.

Private advice was received in Wellington to-day that. Earl Jellicoe and party have arrived at Colombo on their journey to England. ;.

The Hon. A. D. M'Leod (Minister of Lands) returned to Wellington last night from Wairarapa. •

Ihe Hon. W. NoßWorthy (Minister of Agriculture) was a passenger by the Wahine from Lyttelton this morning. The Hon. W. Downie Stewart (Minister of Customs) arrived in Wellington from the South by the' Wahine tbis morning. -

Colonel J. Findlay, C.8., D.5.0., Commander of the 3rd New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration. .

An announcement was made prior to the last election that Sir Heaton Rhodes would not contest the Ellesmere seat again. A Press Association message states that when asked yesterday if his retirement this year was definite, Sir ■Heaton referred to the previous announcement, and replied, "I have not withdrawn from the; position I took up then." ,

' -Mr- J-.'TumLull, crier and usher at the Christchurch Supreme Court, will retire from that position at the end of tins month. He joined the Justice Department about 42 years ago as assistantbailiff at _ the : Eesident Magistrate's Court, Christchurch. He was appointed chief bailiff in 1891, and succeeded Mr. E. W. Seager as usher in' the Supreme Court 14 years ago. He has served in the Supreme Court, under Mr. Justice Denniston, Mr. Justice Herdman,. and Mr. Justice Adams. Mr. Turnbull is a well-known bowler, having won : the champion .pairs of New Zealand in 1920 with Mr. W. Spiller.
