The crew of a seaplane plying between Alicante and Oran have, been rescued at sea, some sixty miles of Oran, thanks to their coolness in the face o fimmediate danger. When the seaplane .was sixty miles off 'Oran the crank .shaft broke, involving dama»e to the carburettor. The machine was soon enveloped in flames, but both the pilot and wireless operator, who were the only persons on board, kept remarkably cool, the pilot bringing his 'plane down from a height of 1300 feet, and align tin" safely on the water, while the wireless operator sent out a call for help and freed four earner pigeons whicli eventually arrived at Oran. Although both men were badly burned about the handß, they were able to detach one float and a 'plane from the burning wreckage, and clung on to these until they were rescued ten -hours.. later by a- boat from Oran, which put to sea immediately the call for help was received A seaplane from Oran also-took part in the rescue. The machine and seven bags of mail were completely destroyed.
