THAMES SCHOOL OF MINES
AN AMALGAMATION/ PROPOSAL,
A proposalhas been made to amalgamate the Thames School of Mines with the Thames Technical School. This suggestion has been put forward as the result of a movement to have electrical engineering taught at Thames, but the question which* remains to be settled is where the necessary instruction is to be'given. There are those who consider that the necessary facilities should be provided at the Technical School, while others, again, think that the School of Mines would be a suitable institution to teach "the subject, seeing that it already possesses apparatus for electrical work. ,
In order that the town .may not lose the_ prospect altogether of having the subject _of .electrical engineering taught there, it has been suggested that the School o£ Mines and the Technical School should be. amalgamated in order to bring about a coordination of work in the field of . electrical, knowledge. To give effect ,td such a policy would entail some negotiation between the Departments of Education and Mines, and in the course of the next few days the Ministers concerned, namely, the Hon. Sir James Parr and the Hon. G. J. Anderson, will discuss the -jp-^—'-t Thames with those interested . '
