NEW YORK, 6th January. Paavo Nurmi, the Finnish Olympic distance runner, opened an American indoor campaign by winning a mile in the world's record time of 4mm 13 2-3 sec, from a- field of six of America's best runners. He won by three yards from Joie Ray, the former United btates mile champion, and clipped a full second from the previouß record held by
Nurmi also made two other world's records, running 1500 metres in 3min 5B l-.ssec, and winning the 5000 metres in Umin 443 sec. These times are respectively 5 Z-ssec and lOsec better than Ray b former records. :
