TWO-YEAR-OLD RACING
AN INVOLVE^ POSITION,
Of the two-year-olds seen out so. far this season, Runnymede, Mimetic, Automine, Licinius, Merry Damon, and Cyrene are the best. Automne and Liciiiius have both unbeaten records, but neither as yet has had a really acid test. Mimetic won the Great Northern Foal Stakes, yet was beaten out of a }.-i;ice in the Royal Stakes, but that, toum waa too bad to be true. Runnymede las a really good record, and he might lave extended Mimetic in the Foal Stakes but for running wide at the ton. On the second day if he had galloped straight he would certainly hav.e beaten Merry Damon. He made amends on the last day by winning the Royal Stakes f:om a smart field. Cyrene has not been sten out since the_ Welcome Stakes, Which he won so convincingly: from Lady Cavendish and Runnymede. Of the six Runnymede and Mimetic should be the bVst autumn two-yoar-olds, although Automne, both for his name as well as his form, should not be co lightly psised over.;: ..- • .;' ' .'-. ■" " : f The Southerners Overdrawn and Circulation, are apparently, not as good as was at first thought. Hyde Park, Shirley, King's Speech, and Lady Cavendish, are all useful. A trio that might improve into the best class are Merry Damon, Money Order, and Mondane. Added to all these are the late two-year-olds,-who are not produced until the autumn, and quite often provide the besti of, the year, or at least the most promising for the three-year-old racing of the next season. Mention has been omitted of Mr. G. D. Greenwood's pair, Nincompoop and Chignon, of whose quality there can be no doubt. How. they compare with the two-year-oldß of the Dominion racing,- is a matter only of conjecture. ■: . . ' : : ' /
