On New Yearjs Day three motor [buses left full for a picnic at: Stokes ' Valley, the .grounds being • again lent by Mr. S: D. Thomson, of Kamahi. Here "" a very happy time was spent, the me*. ■ entering into the sport* and games with -a zest that was good to see. A great deal of amusement was caused by the .blindfold boxing, the men being verj enthusiastic over thia event. The party returned'to ■ town;at 7.30^p.m.,' when another cinematograph entertainment had very kindly been arranged by ' Mr. G. Austin, in the rooms. These" were* . filled to overflowing with a very appreciative audience. ••■. Supper was handed round during the interval by the ladies, and the prizes presented by Mr. R.R. Crerar ; for the . following events f^Blindfold boxing, Wignal (Ruapehu) 1, Moore • (Waiwera) 2; three-legged race, M'Alister and . Keith (Largo Law) ; ladies' race, Miss E. Brown 1; V.'West- , rupp 2; 100} yards race, Neville (Kennedy) 1, Keith (Largo Law), 2; obstacle' race, J. Moore (Waiwera); jumble race, Scofield 1, Barclay (Euapehu) 2; cigarette race, Law; (Euapehu) 1, Cruickshank (Waiwera) 2; tug-o'-war, Lairgo Law v. Ruapehu resulted.in a win for the former; tug-o'-war, coastal V: allcomers, won by the coaelal; tug-b'-war, Xargo Law v. Waiwera, won by Largo Law. A hearty^ vote of thanks was ! proposed by the men for such a fine: time, and was carried with cheers and acclamation. Cheers were also given for the ladies, who had'gone to no end of trouble to make the day the perfect day it wa«; a.lso for Mr. Austin: for " such a pleasant evening, and to Mr Harrison for tHe loan of the films.
