Ihe late Mr. Butler was a native of the town of Wellington, England, and came *?•£ ew Zealand with his parents as a child.- The fairnly lived for some .years at .limarr,. As a young man,-he first took employment at .Christchurch, and thence proceeded to Taranaki, where he was engaged in home mission work in connection with the Presbyterian Church. On the outbreak of tho war in 1914, he volunteered and proceeded with the second contingent to Samoa. Whilst there he met witli an accident and was invalided home in 1916. Subsequently he was engaged in,work in connection with the Returned- Soldiers' Department He fV Ctwi?- r' a time as T ™ant Officer of the Wellington, Education Board iJurmg the past six years the late Mr. J3utler was actively engaged in connection with the Boys' Institute work handling as many as 800 boys in the course of a year, and having" as many as 28 cricket teams going at one time and almost as many football teams. Mr' JJutler rendered useful service in connection with the children's playground lier of the Wellington Hospital Board for some years past. On the 16th of March last, Mr: Butler; when _ returning from a visit to laranaki in connection with the Boys' Institute, met with a motor-car accident -tie sustained sevictos.injury to his spine and after a long and painful illness passed away last evening. .
