TWO MODEL INNINGS

FREEMAN AND WOOLLEY IN EXCELLENT FORM. >

(Received 29th December, noon.)

" SYDNEY, This Day. The " Sydney Morning Herald," commenting pa the Test match,,says: "The oxcelleuce of Freeman's form was as unexpected as it was gratifying, especially to his comrades. He gave an exhibition of plucky endeavour, during''which he displayed a very correct defence, even against the intricacies of Mailey'e bowling. He deserved every-ruu o*f his 50, ■ot out, with which he retired at the close of the fociugs—one ol the highest scores of his career. Woolley's innings was a model one, almost devoid of defensive play, since the batsman, not the bowler, was ihe attacking party. This feat of Woolley's represented the sixth individual century score of the match, and the second occasion on .which the brilliant left-hander hag reached thret figures in Test cricket. That little fact is worth notice, because left-handed centuries are rarities among English batsmen, C. Mead being the only other lefthander to make a century for. England in a Test against Australia:

" England's wonderful achievement of scoring 411 in the last innings established a new record in Test cricket, the previous highest score being 370 runs. To got so many runs in the fourth innings of a Test match running into the ninth day from the commencement of piny, and on a wicket on which 1200 runs had already been made, was a really remarkable performance, and provided stimulating compensation for the beaten side."
