DE LUXE THEATRE.
A special holiday programme has been selected for this week's change at the De Luxe Theatre. There was a crowded attendance last evening at the initial performance of the "powerful and colourful Universal film entitled "Wine." The story relates to the Warriner family, the central figure being Angela, who at her coming-out party is thrilled with the gaiety of her new life. Neglecting the genuine affection of a serious and worthy young man, Angela prefers tha merriment of the gay company in which I she now moves, and is ultimately arrested, together with other members of her party, in a police raid. Heeding the lesson ere it is too late, Angefa resolves to lead a better' life—one with more solid and lasting joys; and the play ends happily. As Angela, Clara. Bow takes a difficult part with much success, and is supported by a powerful cast. The play is preceded by an appropriate prologue—a dance entitled "La Champagne," gracefully performed by Misa Gwcnethe Walshe, of Wellington, with full musical and coloured effects. The enjoyable music rendered by the efficient orchestra, under the condiictorship of Mr. L. D. Austin, includes "Hungarian Airs" and the prelude to "Lohengrin" (Wagner). There was a matinee this afternoon, and the present programme will be continued during the -v;ek.
