MR. H. H. OSTLER APPOINTED

UNOFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT.

Although no official announcement has been made, it is'understood on good authority that Mr. H. H. Ostler, of Auckland, has been appointed to the Supreme Court Bench.

Mr. Henry Hubert Ostler was born in 1876, and is. a son of Mr. W. H. Ostler, a run holder in Mackenzie Country, Canterbury. He received his higher education at Christ's- Hospital, London, and at Victoria College,-Wellington, and he gained his degree as Bachelor of Laws in. 1905. For some time Mr. Ostler was associate to the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout, and he has also acted ;;s editor of the New Zealand Law Reports. From May, 1910, until May, 1915, he was Crown Solicitor at Wellington, the office at that time being designated AssistantLaw Officer. He was also chairman of the Victoria College Council, and from 1915 until 1919 he was a member of the Senate of the University of New Zealand. ■■ Mr. Ostler, practised for sonic time in Timaru, but in recent years he has become a partner in the legal firm of Jackson, Russell, Tunics, and Ostler, in. .Auckland. While abroad two years ago Mr. Ostler was successful in an interesting case which appeared before the Privy Council, and before he returned to New Zealand he hunted big game hi South Africa.
