PAREMATA BOATING CLUB

SAILING RACES.

• The third competition for the Bradey Shield in connection -with the Pareniata. Boating Club was sailed during last week-end. A fresh south-east wind prevailed, with fine weather. Six boats competed as follows:—Mr. Sterling's Cooee, scr; Mr. Grove's Colleen, 9min; Messrs. Sutherland and Gunson's Boom.erang, lOmin; Mr. risk's Karehana, 13 mm; Mr. M'Kenzie's Queenie, 13min; Mr. Amon's Dot, 22min. Dot was well out of sight when the scratch boat crossed the line.' On the run up.to Grey's Buoy Karehana assumed the leading position, followed closely by Boomerang, with Queenie, Colleen, and Cooee in hofc chase. On the beat up the bay, Boom-erang-passed Karehana, but ran into a dead calm at Moorhouse Point. Karehana got tho breeze and went ahead, followed by Boomerang. A great race up the channel saw Karehana cross the winning post one second ahead of Boomerang, after one of the best finishes seen on the waters yet. Queenie, Colleen, and Cooee were not far away. Considerable interest was shown in the event: by a large number of spectators. The second-class boats advanced the Moorhouse Cup a further stage, when Mr. Stone's Hopharry (scr), Mr. F. Borland's Raroa (4min), and Mr. A. France's Bint (Bmin) contested the event. Hapny Thoughts, Arahiwi, and. Petrel scratched. A good start was effected, and Raroa.. was again soon showing her ability as a sailer. She soon overhauled Bint when the tipper har-~ bour was reached, closely followed by Hopharry. On the beat to windward, Raroa increased her lead, and arrived home first. Hopharry was second, Bin' third.

This week's races will be for speciaj prizes. First-class boats sail for a trophy presented by Hiss Fraser, whilt the second-class will compete for Sir. Waddel's trophy. Both races will bi over the Paremata course.
