ATHLETICS AT PETONE.
. Petone's turn in the programme of evening sp_orts meetings for the first part of the amateur athletic season,came yesterday, when'a meeting was conducted' by the Hutt Valley_ A.A. 'Club. There was.a splendid variety of events, for which the entries were excellent, a large contingent of athletes from town clubs taking . part. So numerous were tho sprinters tljat in the 100 yds handicap five heats were necessary. Contests., ill I-through were keen and interesting-, and made good sport for .the spectators. ..Kyle was again an outstanding competitor, being responsible for a splendid performance iv the 440 yds. handicap, which he won -easily from scratch in. the good time of oOsec. Results of events are as follow:— 100 yds Handicap.—First heat: H. Wilkins (6yds), 1; J. Hartridge (Byds) 2. Time, lO^sec. Second heat: F. S. Hill (4yds) and A. Stevenson (6yds), equal, 1; M. Leadbetter (scr), 3. Time, 10 2-5 sec. Third heat: D. Paris (2yds), 1; P. Levy (syds), 2. Time, 10 l-saec. Fourth heat: . Guy (4yds), 1; L. Foley (Byds), 2. Time,: 10 3-ssec. Fifth heat: A. Barnett (7yds), 1; AY. Robinsori (6yds), 2. Time, 10 l-ssec. Final: Paris, 1; Barriott, .2; Wilkins, 3. Won by three .yards. Time, 10 1-osec.
