SAMOAN CHIEFS
GUESTS'AT THE ROTARY CLUB.
The visiting Samoan chiefs were tho guests of, the Wellington Rotary Club at their luncheon' to-day. The president of the club (Mr. D A. Ewen) extended a hearty welcome to' the visitors. The Rotary Club, he said, stood for friendship, but they did not welcome them on that account'alone, but on account, of their association with those splendid-people, the Maoris. They had all been very struck by the expressions of loyalty which had'been uttered by the chiefs, and. their' desire to remain under the British flag. He hoped they would thoroughly enjoy their visit to New Zealand,: and that' they would carry away happy memories and much useful information. ..'■■-.
,On behalf of the chiefs, Tpelupe, returned thanks for the welcome. There was one thing that held .the people of Samoa and New Zealand together, and that Avas love—love of the Gospel and of their flag. The Rotary Club stood for love, as was exemplified by the fact that they were entertaining orphan children. The Samoans, were really orphans, and they looked on New Zealand' as their .guardians.:; (Applause.) . -'. ,
