ST. 'FRANCIS CONVENT

The HumberStreet' Hall, Island BaVj was packed last evening, /when the annua} break-up concert, and distribution of prizes of: the St. ; Francis Convent .School, took: place.. An excellent programme; was' arranged by the sisters of the school; lander the direction of the Rev. Mother. '•' L'ennoh. ' The' following choruses were sung most' effectively by the children:—"Welcome," "The' Cuckoo;" "Cherry Ripe." Action songs were also nicely executed by the pupils,' "The Poor, 'Wee Rabbits,'" by the infants, "The Windmill," and."The Hat Shop," by the senior pupils. Margaret. Hoskins'. danced* the Irish jig,"and Enid Schon danced an Eastern idance, ' whilst Thomas Lyons played a violm solo,' and Miss. Beatrice Hoskins • acted as- accompanist. The most effective item was the cantata,* "Dime IJundens School,", which was excellently staged and demonstrated the careful training which .the youthful actors ?received. " The stage effects-were considerably enhanced by rays of limelight, me performance was concluded by a tarce, "The Upstart," the characters bemg taken by the boys of.the school Xlie Yen Archdeacon Devov S.M., Hector of Island Bay,, who wa's accompanied by the' Rev. Dr. Chapman, S M..V addressed the children and the audience. He congratulated the children on the excellence of the entertainment, and'paid a glowing tribute to the Rev. Mother■Lennon and her devoted staff of teachers.
