IN BETTER HANDS
SIR G. .FENWICK ON IMPERIAL
PROSPECTS.
(Received 9th December, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Sir George Fenwick, who has arrived here on his way back to New Zealand, states that while he was in London he attended the meeting of the Chambers of Commerce of the Empire. 'The question of preference to the.Dominions was discussed, and hardly a dissentient voice was raised agaiust the principle. With the return to power of the Baldwin Ministry, he said the whole question had assumed a different form. Undoubtedly the decisions of the Imperial Conference would now be given effect and without much delay. There was no doubt that now that the political future of Britain is in better hands, trade would revive. The Labour Ministry had had a dampening effect on trade, but now greater confidence was expressed. There was also a keener desire to put capital into ventures which would have been shunned under labour rule. Another matter of the utmost importance to Australia and New Zealand, concluded Sir George Feuwick, was the .Singapore Base. The general feeling manifested after the victory of th- Con? wrvatove Party was that th e Singapore Base WoU l d b established. There was Jittle doubt in his mind that it would be carried into effect almost immediately
