PARENTS' DAY.

T n n ?? y> ,whlch wa3 held In the Lyall Bay School yesterday, was a pronounced success, the children havimi taken a keener interest this year in the annual function of the school. They entered wholeheartedly into the spirit of the thing, and the school had quite a festivo appearance. A constant stream of visitors was in attendance from the opening of the school at 9 a.m. until the closing hour in the afteroon. Altogether, over 200 parents and residenta availed themselves of the opportunitv of witnessing a school "working day *' Mothers naturally predominated, but there was a fair number of fathers present. The visitors received a hearty welcome from the headmaster, Mr. A U Blake, and his staff. The teaching sUff was kept busily engaged during tho day in answering the various questions of parents ua to the 'progress of their children.- Theio was a lavish display of drawings, many of considerabls 1"°!' i A ? JJ ecial test '"' handwriting had been held during the week, and till handwriting of every child from Standaids 11. to VI. was on view. A display of physical drill was given, in which eight squads from Standards II to VI. participated, four squads of-boys and four of girls. A very fino feature of the exhibits was the woodwork exe cuted by the senior boys. The inlaid work was very cleverly done, and reflected great credit on the boys The infant school, with Miss Roberts tie headmistress; and her capable assistants, also received a good deal of attention and praise. Tie chief feature in tins section was the raffia and basket work so cleverly executed by the little ones in Primes 111. and IV. Other outstanding exhibits were the illustrated drawings and the paper cutting and mounting, illustrative of conversation lessons. .
