The Central American Republic of Honduras has been in the throes' of political unrest for months as a result of various leaders' aspirations towards the Presidency. In August a new phase of turmoil developed. Two Americans were killed in San Marcos de Colon, when. General Petala, a revolutionary leader, attacked the- village. Government forces were sent from Managua, the Nicaraguan capital, to guard the frontier, and it was also reported that American marines in Honduras had been sont to the border ■to repel the revolutionaries. Jiarly m August, General Gregorio Ferrera, then War Minister, had fled from tho capital, Tegucigalpa, to tho mountains, taking .with lam a largo number of troops, and considerable arms and ammunition, in open rebellion against the Government. It is suggested that the Liberal Party in Honduras was responsible for the new outbreak, as it asserted that the authorities had arrested' " all the principal leaders of the Liberal Party.
