THE CHERNIAVSKYS

ANOTHER BRILLIANT CONCERT.

Tho concert given in the Grand Opera House, last evening by the Chcrniavskys deserved groater support than it actually received; . From an artistic point of view the various items on a generous and -.well-varied programme leached a very high standard indeed, and those fortunate enough to bo present were charmed with tho performance. That fact was made very clear by the ■ insistent demand for moro, a demand that was met in a very liberal fashion._ Tchaikowski's "Variations," for violin, piano, and cello, was chosen as the opening number, and a bettor choice could hot have been made', as the many beautiful passages of the piece, executed in skilful manner, placed the audience in a state of pleasurable anticipation. But the opening piece did not overshadow those that followed • the same high standard was maintained right through, both in trioe and solo work. Other trios were Glinka's "Russian Romance," Mendelssohn's delightful Spring Song," Grieg's "Antra's Danco, probably tho most popular of that composer's famous suite, and Lawlences "By the Waters of Minnetonka. .Mischel Cherniavsky was in excellent form witli the 'cello, and his numbers included Sanivartihi's "Sonata, Popper's "Tarentello," and, as an encore^ number Beethoven's "Menuet t k.' ■? all hls selections he gave .further evidence of■ his mastery of the cello. ;Leo Cherniavsky delighted with his violin selections, which were wellchosen and excellently performed. Hie numbers were "Romance" (Beethoven), /Variations" (Corelli), "Polonaise" Vieuxtemps). Jan Chorniaviky1, sc - Jechons- were "Andante in F Minor"(Beethoven), "Gavotte" (Stevenhage.), and "Rhapsodic in <?• M;™-" (Brahms). 'a S n pianist .^ g™. avskyhas many distinctive qualities, but not the least of these aro his crisp! ness and delicacy of touch. The Cliermavskys will give allo thcr concert this evening, in the Town Hall \
