GRANT ROAD SPRINGS
A correspondent (H. Anlmorth) writes :o "The Eosl" as follows:—
"May 1 respectfully- cull your' atten lion to the spring along Grant road and situated at tho foot of Wadeslown. There havo been indications written uo Ironi time, to time in tho vicinity of the spring that a name is required for it. Grunt Road Spring will not suffice, because there happens to be another good spring-, ever bubbling and going tp wasto, much further up tho same road, and I fail to see why advantage is not taken of I ho fact, and ' \yhy the stuns priviloge end considenition is not shown 1" tho icsidenls o[ tho latter locality, as in and has been shown to the lovers of spimg water in the first-named locality. 'Irue, tho dogs and other animals in the vicinity of tlje uppor Grant Road opring in the earth may drink their fill . asily enough, which is something, but after allowing that the humans take core of iheir animals, surely the humans have Hhe firsl right of access to this gift of Nature. "Some years ago when first the Wadestown trams started I suggssced that the spring with its low-lying \,ipe (about a foot from the ground) should be transferred to-about the vicinity of where it now is and be made more useful to man and, hovse; in about' two or throe weeks afterwards, the water was carried lower down, but no provision was made for the beast. However, I feel sure that all Thorndon residents have since appreciated tho /good work done by tho Corporation in this direction, as is evidenced every day l>y tho stream of men, jvoinen, ami children, coming away with their various utensils'filled from this fountain. I feel grateful to tho .council myself for this pure water, and clay by day I replenish my bottle at its flowing fount. I believe tho water is always the same temperature, but in comparison with the atmosphere it appears to be- warn in winter and delioiously cool in-, summer; T. would be glad, to know the analysis of its active mineral principles." Tho correspondent Ihinks that a. verse or Scriptural quotation, along with a, name should ba placed aL (lie spring, ku.l ho •sucgcsl.s tin- following: —
